In the six years to 2012 the UK lost 54,000 acres of green space, mostly to housing. That has continued with 215 school playing fields sold between 2010 and 2019. In the case of Udney Park it is not a case of the government selling off the family silver as the land is privately owned. The impact of the site remaining out of use is the nevertheless the same with diminishing areas of playing fields for amateur sport available in the borough.

By way of update my conversations with the new owners continue. We met again on Friday and inspected the inside of the pavilion building. Mr Wu’s representatives are now acutely aware (if they were not before) of the impact of recent vandalism, and I have made some suggestions on how to put in place security arrangements and roof repairs.

Since I last posted news about the private sale of Udney park to Mr Wu there has been some progress.

I have held informal meetings with Councillors Robin Brown and Julia Neden-Watts and Council Leader Gareth Roberts. I have been advised by Julia that LBRUT have been absolutely clear with Mr Wu’s representatives in respect of all of the planning constraints applicable to the site.
